Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins are all for helping the poor and sick . . . except if it means inconveniencing them and their neighborhood. New York's St. Vincent's Hospital wants to tear down their current building on West 12th Street in Greenwich Village and replace it with something larger and more modern. Surprise, surprise, Greenwich residents Sarandon and Robbins want no part of it. A proponent of the development told the New York Post:
"The hospital provides $40 million in care to the indigent every year. Robbins dismissed more than 100 people rallying in support of the hospital - low-income, union workers and veterans of the AIDS crisis - as 'those people out there.' "Sarandon said in a statement: "Improving the hospital is a great idea. However, this can be accomplished without compromising the neighborhood. St. Vincent's should consider the proposed alternative solutions." (Source)
"Save the planet! Help the less fortunate! Bring health care to the masses! - Just don't do it in my backyard." These two make me more nauseous than that mayonnaise eating contest I entered last year. I love how Hollywood thinks they can tell us how the rest of us should live, but when it comes to changing their own lifestyles for the good of society, they start bitching. If these two really want to save the Earth, I suggest they begin by burying themselves six feet under it.
