Isaiah Washington will not be appearing on the next season of Grey’s Anatomy. The actor generated a firestorm of controversy this year after he called fellow Grey’s castmember T.R. Knight a “faggot” during an on-set quarrel. He then repeated the slur backstage at the Golden Globe Awards in January of this year. Washington issued the following statement through his publicist this morning:

“I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more.” (Source)

Of course Isaiah’s quote is a reference to the 1976 classic Network which starred Robert Duvall … who was in Apocalypse Now (1979) with Marc Coppola … who was in Vampire’s Kiss (1989) with David Hyde Pierce … who Isaiah Washington once called a “total fag” at a Fourth of July BBQ back in 2002. Kevin Bacon would be proud!

Sharon Stone thinks it’s ridiculous that Grey’s Anatomy star Isaiah Washington was forced into rehab–not for drugs or alcohol–but for calling costar T.R. Knight a “faggot.” According to Stone, she’s been calling all of her gay friends “big fags” for years:

“‘I’ve been called a bitch - and a lot worse - for years. And you know what, so what? People who think that aren’t going to change their minds. And I wouldn’t dream of sending them to therapy to ‘rehabilitate’ their feelings. How absurd. “Please, I call all my gay friends ‘big fags’.”

As much as it pains me, I have to agree with Sharon on this one. Rehab is for crazed junkies like Pete Doherty and the dude that plays the Reverend/dad on Seventh Heaven (his nose is like a damn vacuum cleaner), not for someone who said “fag” once. If I was put in rehab for every little homophobic slur I’ve said, I’d have missed a large portion of my childhood. Seriously, when I was getting my checkup at six months old, I called the doctor a fag. I still maintain there was no reason to remove my pants to check my temperature.

It didn’t come as a surprise to former castmates of Isaiah Washington’s that he assaulted his “Grey’s Anatomy” co-star Patrick Dempsey last week (Washington choked Dempsey during a fight on the set):

In 2000, Washington was shooting the show “Soul Food” for Showtime in Toronto when he grabbed a woman who was playing his wife and planted a “forceful, aggressive kiss” on her, rather than the peck on the cheek called for in the script. The irate actress screamed at Washington, and he screamed back. When the director and producer tried to intervene, Washington “went off” on them, too.

I swear I just read a summary of my past three Saturday nights. Just replace “forceful, aggressive kiss” with “really forceful, aggressive kiss” and “his wife” with “drunken cellmate” and it’ll be perfect.
