Alex Trebek injured in burglar chase

Alex Trebek was injured yesterday in San Francisco after chasing a burglar out of his hotel room. "I'll take 'Do Not Fuck with My Stuff, Crackhead' for $500, Alex." From the San Francisco Chronicle:

The longtime game show host appeared on crutches Wednesday to host the National Geographic World Championship at Google Inc.'s Mountain View headquarters.

"It happened at 2:30 a.m., chasing a burglar down the hallway of my San Francisco hotel, when my Achilles tendon ruptured and I then fell on carpet, bruising the other leg in process. Surgery on Friday," Trebek said. A spokeswoman at the Marriott Marquis confirmed the incident took place at that hotel.

Hotel security apprehended the suspect, Lucinda Moyers, 56, of San Francisco, he said. [Lt. Troy] Dangerfield said the victim identified the suspect.

Trebek fulfilled his hosting duties at the geography bee, which was hosted this year by Google.

Now that is dedication right there. Ruptured Achilles and he still shows up to host the Geography Bee. If this happened to someone like Lindsay Lohan, she would have been in the hospital for months. "So you're saying all I have to do is push this button and it releases Oxycontin into my IV? . . . is this . . . is this Heaven?"

Nothing very badass about falling down while chasing a criminal.

What is amazing about the whole thing is that in California, The Golden State, and in San Francisco, the crown jewel of the Golden State and the city of peace and love that a common criminal would practice his evil arts, in a nice hotel. What is happenening to California and San Francisco culture that such a criminal would roam free in the halls of an elegant hotel. I find the whole story hard to believe. I think he really slipped and fell in the shower. Criminals do not ply their trade in San Francisco of all places, next door to the Saintly Berkley. NYC yes, San Fran, no.
