Being a celebrity has its perks

On May 5, during an afterparty for the Costume Institute Gala in New York, Kiefer Sutherland headbutted designer Jack McCollough after he supposedly knocked over Brooke Shields. Yesterday, Alicia Maxey Greene, a spokeswoman for the Manhattan District Attorney, announced that he's getting away with it:

"We declined to prosecute after a full investigation. That included speaking to the complaining witness, who was quite uncooperative."

Sutherland, 42, is also off the hook with the L.A. City Attorney's office, which investigated the actor for a possible probation violation. Sutherland is currently serving a five-year probation term following a second DUI conviction in 2007.

This is probably a smart move by the Manhattan DA. You hate to waste resources on a case where there's only 250 witnesses. You really need video of the incident from at least three different angles and a sketch from one of those courtroom artists if you're gonna prosecute someone as famous as Kiefer. I think he's owed a huge apology and maybe a fruit basket or two for this whole inconvenience.
