MJ as an Artist one of the greatest and I bow to all his accomplishments... As a person, yes he is weird, I wouldn't let him babysit my children (Although I have none I still wouldn't), it isn't based on his court cases, it's the fact that he has issues with his childhood, drug abuse (regardless of how it started), and his vibe I get from him... It just doesn't sit right. Guilty or Innocent I wouldn't let him near my children... I don't call him a pedo because I haven't a clue, I wasn't there, I know people who would have gladly let there children stay over his house just to fake a story of molestation (weither it would have happened or not) for money... In any case, I did enjoy his music when I was a child and I do separate the person from the artist. I love Marquez's writing though he's a communist, I love Allende though I don't agree with her personal philosophy, and I enjoy many many artists without getting into what type of people they are, which sadly, usually is messed up people I don't like and who I'd rather not hear about unless they are 'performing'.

As far as the proof that he diddled children goes...I don't think proof, in the form of physical evidence, is all that important in a case like this one. Child molestation is almost never reported as soon as it happens, therefore there is rarely a great deal of physical evidence. DNA, hair, all of that stuff is usually washed away long before anyone hears about the abuse. In any case, you don't need to SEE someone rob a bank to make the reasonable assumption that the guy running out with a bag of cash is the one who did it.

He was a talented guy who was obviously troubled. His music was never my thing, so I might be less inclined to ignore his bad choices and forgive him his really, REALLY questionable behavior, but I won't deny his impact on society and popular culture. He was an icon and a huge part of the entertainment environment in this country over the past five decades.

You've got to give credit where credit is due, but that doesn't mean that you can't look at Michael as a complete person, rather than just concentrating on the good that he did.

As a musician myself I don't really think that the accusations regarding his personal life even have anything at all to do with celebrating what an amazing artist he was. Love him or hate him there's not a single one of you out there that can dispute his talent and his accomplishments. You guys can speculate about this or guess about that and form your little opinions, but at the end of the day whether you like him or not, he's still ONE OF THE GREATEST ENTERTAINERS WHO EVER LIVED. Maybe THE GREATEST. And I don't have to speculate in order to reach this conclusion. His many accolades speak for themselves. And they speak loud and clear. They are not open to negotiation or speculation. there was nothing special about MJ. for the past 25 years, he was famous for being famous during a time when the media has become obsessed with celebrity culture. prior to that, he was a bubble-gum pop singer. his private life was bizarre at best (to use a kind adjective). about the only thing worth pondering on his death is the sadness he must have endured by missing out on his child, such that he spent his entire adulthood trying to relive what he thought he lost.

it's a sad day for those who loved him, such as his family and friends. and i suppose its sad for those who liked his music. but everybody dies eventually and his death is no more meaningful than any other, and i would argue less meaningful than the death of any one of our soldiers who have died overseas since 2001 in the fight against terrorists.

The fact that he was not convicted in a court of law means only that there was not guilt "beyond a reasonable doubt." In a civil action, had one been brought, the standard would have been "by a preponderance of the evidence," and he might very well have been convicted.

I think maybe you folks should stop trying to defend him on the basis that he "was never convicted" - while true, it's not much an arguent. The "but look at all the good things he did" defense is far more cogent.

Anyway, as a matter of public record he paid millions of dollars to make allegations of pedophelia go away. I'm sure that in the agreement that accompanied the payements there was a stipulation that "neither party admits any wrong-doing," but there was clearly some untoward activity, even if it's not "beyond a reasonable doubt."

The question you might ask is, "would I let him babysit my kid?" Setting aside allegations that he liked to play "Thriller" with little boys, there are the wierdo beliefs, the drug abuse, the strange costumes, and the dangling-from-a-window-behvior.
