In a well-crafted move that couldn't possibly backfire, Madonna's lawyer, Alan Chinula, is openly antagonizing everyone in Malawi by saying that -- even though it's illegal under Malawi law -- they have no chance to stop his client's adoption of 4-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James. Chinula told Us Weekly:

"I am not sleeping sleepless nights over this. I don't see any law in Malawi that can stop this adoption . . . [James' uncle] has already signed off the consent forms, and Madonna counter-signed them. She just has to wait to hear from me when I get the result on Friday."

Several non-governmental organizations have called the Human Rights Consultative Committee, slamming Madonna's adoption attempt because the groups feel the child should be taken care of by her own family. 

The organizations also accuse the singer of using her wealth and celebrity status to bend Malawi's adoption laws. (The singer, who adopted David Banda in 2006, has not followed regulations that stipulate that prospective parents must undergo an 18- to 24-month assessment period in Malawi before adopting.)

And the best part:

But Chinula tells Us that law is over 50 years old and "archaic." "Laws must be dynamic," he says. "They must move with current trends." (Source)

I completely agree with Alan. Why shouldn't Malawi change for Madonna? Madonna has 17 platinum records. Stupid Malawi doesn't even have a number one hit. They need to realize how important Madonna is and rubber stamp this adoption because, frankly, I'm starting to get a little pissed off with their attitude. I'm sorry you had to hear that. It just gets me so fired up when countries act all country-y with their "rules" and "laws." Like they know what's best for their citizens or something. Idiots.
