    Gran Torino's release date was 1/9/09. I think to be eligible for an Oscar, the films must open in the previous calendar year, from midnight at the start of January 1 to midnight at the end of December 31.

    Yeah, um, did you actually SEE Gran Torino? Wasn't that great of a movie. Very predictable plot, stale characters, and an unbalanced script really screwed what could have been a good movie. I'm glad the Academy noticed at least
