Last year, to illustrate one of his anti-administration bombasts, the portly polemicist posted on his michaelmoore.com Web site a heartbreaking photo from Iraq of an American soldier carrying the blood-spattered body of a child. The picture was snapped by acclaimed independent war correspondent Michael Yon, who has been very careful about how his images are distributed and goes out of his way to make sure they aren't used for demagogic diatribes. Yon - a Special Forces vet who posts regular dispatches from the front at michaelyon-online.com - is considered by many as the "Ernie Pyle of our time." The misappropriated photo shows US Army Maj. Mark Bieger cradling an Iraqi girl wounded by car-bomb shrapnel. She died a short time later.I hope this guy takes Michael Moore to the cleaners - literally. Yon has tried to contact Moore for seven months to discuss his unauthorized use of the poignant snap, but hasn't heard a word back from the director of "Fahrenheit 9/11." Now, the fed-up photojournalist has told his lawyer to ready a lawsuit against Moore for copyright infringement.
"The implication on Moore's Web site was that our soldiers were somehow responsible for that kid being wounded," Yon's lawyer, John Mason, told Page Six. "That is absolutely not true. She was the victim of an insurgent's car bomb." Yon said: "I've never sued anyone in my life. It looks like Mr. Moore might be the first." Page Six e-mailed Moore for his response, but he didn't get back to us, either. (Source)

Even as a self-proclaimed liberal, I, as do many other like-minded individuals, support the efforts of the troops keeping and ensuring peace in places like Iraq. Even without supporting their presence there, I have the utmost respect for individuals like Mjr. Bieger who have to see and respond to incidents like this.
Shame on Michael Moore for manipulating this heartbreaking photo for his own whiny and polarizing political commentary. He gives all left-leaners a bad name with the smug license he exhibited in using this photo. I'm disgusted by his decision to post it with the insinuation that the compassionate soldier cradling this innocent child had a hand in harming her, when he fully knew she did not, and that he stayed with her as she died.

Um... our troops kind of *destroyed* whatever peace was there. al Qaida didn't even have a presence there until we invaded and destroyed whatever was left over from the sanctions.
I am former Army and will not blindly condemn the troops for just any old thing but I know what kinds of guys join the military and I am under NO illusions here. I also know what war does. To paraphrase one of Moore's favorite radio commentators, war kills people and breaks things. Period. You can't "keep the peace" at the point of a rifle.
Even if the Army guy didn't kill that little girl, BECAUSE the Army guy and his buddies are there, the country is in a lot more turmoil which allowed the terrorists to get in and take root. Saddam Hussein was the worst kind of bastard but one thing you could say about him was that this crap didn't happen under his watch.

You're comparing having a car to being at war with a people inside their own lands and stealing a car to killing people. I wish things could be understood with such simplicity, but sometimes they can't. The thing is that the public won't be aware of most of what happens everywhere, and the same rule applies to this. The public is not completely aware that US troops are in Iraq because its oil and natural gas abundance, because there's people telling them it's for peace; when you show a soldier and a kid that's been injured, for better or for worse it associates war with death, which is the ultimate consequence of war.
Getting off topic here - Michael Moore is a Big Fat Liar. His ventures always ignore at least 1/2 of reality and use any means possible to forward the idiot liberal pursuits so common today. I hope he continues eating himself into a pine box (and with his size, it will need to be the crate from a baby grand...).
