Paris Hilton at the Wayne Cooper Boutique in Melbourne, Australia (12/29)

Tightasses in Australia are up in arms over Paris Hilton's $139-a-minute shopping spree earlier in the week. Shortly after her arrival in Melbourne on Monday, Paris dropped $5560 in 40 minutes of shopping at the trendy Wayne Cooper Boutique. From the Melbourne Herald Sun
World Vision Australia chief Tim Costello said Hilton's spree would have been enough to feed a Third World village.

"In World Vision terms, $5000 would ensure that a village of 2000 people in Africa or Asia would have clean water for the rest of their lives," Mr Costello said.

Open Family social worker Les Twentyman said Hilton's spree was disgraceful.

"It is quite obscene spending money like that. Some people are homeless and thousands of people a week are losing their jobs and it is quite obscene in some ways," Mr Twentyman said. (Source)
Amazing. In 40 minutes Paris spent enough money to feed an entire Third World village. Even more remarkable: In 30 minutes she could have serviced that same village.* In all seriousness, if Paris really wants to save humanity, she doesn't need to donate to relief agencies. She needs to set her uterus on fire.

*Maybe she already has

And today she had sand thrown at her face at Bondi Beach...

Oh, how we love her down here.

here's the problem with that bit of criticism. those wealthy royals who run those news paper and magazines, they spend more on a bottle of wine and caviar, than paris does on clothing. and that's just a half hour lunch.

Paris is boosting the economy in Valtrex sales alone. Keep spending that money, ho.

Not like the shop keepers took the money out back and burned it. Both they and the designers could easily donate too.

Keep spending, Paris, keep that economy pumping, girl!

not that i agrre with the way paris behave but is fact that most of rich people does not care about making donations, look at the price of the clothes that hollywood stars wears! that 5000 dolars would be easily the price of a versace dress or whatever, or a bottle of wine...

relax guys the dress has a orange tag on it, its on sale, she could have spent way more

Sadly enough, I pretty much had this exact same conversation with a mate yesterday.

If all the rich people in this world got together with their wealth and each put in a fair amount of their wealtjh (which they would no doubt re-earn within days), they could probably pay of...

-ALL the worlds debts,
-Rebuild all the communities destroyed by war (housing and essentials like housing and eletricity, medicine and so on).
-Help provide food and water for EVERY person in a 3rd world country on this planet by helping the build wells, schools, hospitals, market places, farms and so on.
-Help bring any and all under developed towns into the 24th century.

But instead they let their daughters have pocket money within the thousands, and let them spend it on clothes they will wear ONCE and never touch again.

Its sickening.

All the billionairs in this world, could fix all the worlds problems and make it as close to a paradise as we could imagine and yet they dont.

They could pump so much money into medical research to cure cancer, aids and other incurable illnesses.

They could pay for thousands of people to recieve miracle drugs in the UK, that the NHS refuse to give them due to the Post Code lottery.

Its sicking.

Australia hates Paris? Get in line, honey!

I don't understand why Australians are complaining that anyone came to Australia and spent $5000 on anything. That money is helping YOUR economy. Could it have been better spent other places? Yes, obviously. But wouldn't you rather Paris Hilton spend $5000 in your country rather then the US?

Everyone wants to dictate how someone else spends their personal funds. It is no one's business how someone chooses to spend their own money. The paps need to stop poking their noses into private affairs like this.

Regular people need to realize that we can also sacrifice and give up cable TV, Wii, cell phones, fancy cars, new clothes, jewelry, laptops, etc. etc. etc. to pool our money to fix the world's problems.

Truth be told, the world's problems are not solely about money. There has been enough money given in donations 100 times over to fix these problems. The problem is that there are "gatekeepers" who will never let the money get to those who need it. Sad, but true.

Don't blame Paris for being privileged, and living her life.

Paris has earned her right to spend what she worked hard for. We all know how important our privacy is and for someone who has lost every bit of it to us is a crime. U GO GIRL N SPEND AS MUCH AS U CAN. Economics backs u up as spending leads to earning and inturn making others earn...
