Samantha Ronson refuses to play at gay bars
DJ and noted lesbian Samantha Ronson was recently asked by New York's Rubyfruit nightclub to spin at a benefit to help save the struggling club. When Ronson -- did I mention she's a lesbian? -- heard what "type" of club the Rubyfruit was (hint: g-a-y), she turned down their offer. Rubyfruit's resident spinner Stacy Ledwith told the New York Post:
"At first, her agent said it was $8,000 for the night plus airfare and hotel. Then, he was informed it was a gay and lesbian bar, we were told she doesn't do those kind of venues. She doesn't do gay and lesbian bars and clubs. I thought it was kind of strange considering she's a lesbian. It would have been really great to have her in there and help . . . It's really like betraying her sisters. It just doesn't make sense." (Source)
If I were Samantha, I'd be ashamed of who I was too. Nobody wants to be a flat-chested lesbian whose girlfriend has seen more hardwood than Paul Bunyan. Or maybe we're thinking about this all wrong. Maybe Samantha wasn't intentionally trying to "betray her sisters." She had probably just been on a date with Lindsay and her fingers were too tired to spin the records.

what kind of lump sum bullshit is this, "it's really like she's betraying her sisters", so by the sheer fact that she is gay (which she has not explictly made clear yet) she automatically has to take the gay venues, and if or when she doesn't she's a traitor to her own kind. i believe this could be called reverse homophobia. maybe she doesn't like your bar, maybe she has that night booked at another club, maybe she's taking time off to enjoy her new found relationship, maybe just maybe she doesn't want to do your shitty little "event". she may be gay, she may not be, but does the former require her to treat all other homosexuals as kindred spirts, does the latter require me to see all heteros as my brothers, fuck no. this is just the kind of thinking, on both sides, that reinforces those invisable walls separating the straits from the gays. we're all the same, everybody poops.
