The California Attorney General's office is supposedly investigating claims that Tom Cruise performed a sonogram for a pregnant friend. After Cruise told Barbara Walters earlier in the year that he performed at-home sonograms on Katie Holmes, the state Assembly passed what's known as "the Tom Cruise law" – banning the sale of ultrasound gear to the public:

Now, say sources, the AG's office is checking a whistle-blower's charge that Cruise sonogramed a pregnant pal – which could be "in violation of state or local laws," according to the FDA. We phoned the AG's office and were told: "We usually don't make comments on an ongoing investigation." Asked if they deny Cruise is under investigation, an official replied: "I'm not saying that"... and referred us to the state medical board. Stay tuned.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to do this story because it hits a little too close to home. When I was a kid, my dad did a nickel in Folsom for performing unauthorized sonograms in the back of his van. Screw you government!
